MUSIC

The veteran Bartok Quartet plays all six of its namesake’s string quartets on Tuesday (Nos. 1, 2 and 4) and Wednesday (Nos. 3, 5 and 6) in Schoenberg Hall at UCLA. The ensemble, founded in 1957, consists of violinists Peter Komlos and Geza Hargitai, violist Geza Nemeth and cellist Laszlo Mezo.

DANCE

Locally based Horton Award-winning choreographers Gema Sandoval and Loretta Livingston join forces with actress Angelica Aragon and Mariachi Mexicapan in a new tribute to Cesar Chavez, “Si, Se Puede/Yes, You Can,” Saturday and next Sunday in Cal State L.A.’s Luckman Theatre.

POP MUSIC

A former swimming champion in his native Greece, Yanni has been even more successful since turning his focus to making music. After recently selling out 10 shows at Radio City Music Hall in New York, the keyboardist and composer plays Wednesday at the Pond of Anaheim and Friday at the Forum.

JAZZ

Bobby Short has long been one of the top cabaret performers in New York. His interpretations of standards from the 1930s and ‘40s are respectful, lightly swinging and uplifting. Short makes a rare L.A. appearance this week, leading an orchestra at Catalina Bar & Grill, Tuesday through Saturday.

VIDEO

It’s nearly impossible to steal a picture from under the talented nose of Oscar-winning Sir Anthony Hopkins. But grizzled screen veteran Bart the Bear quite literally towers over both Hopkins and Alec Baldwin in “The Edge.” The David Mamet-penned thriller arrives Tuesday in video stores.

Early Warning: The boys keep going through lead singers, and keep putting out No. 1 albums. “III,” from Van Halen, hits record shelves on March 17.
