Two Different Pieces on Gates Pie Incident

I guess for Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates, the message being sent was “Bye, bye, Mr. American Pie,” as he was pelted in the face recently with a cream pie while arriving for a business meeting in Belgium [“At Least It Wasn’t an Apple Pie,” Feb. 5].

Apparently they were fresh out of Belgian waffles.

After his antitrust battles with the government, maybe this was a piece of “humble pie” to deflate his enormous ego. Or maybe this was just the Belgian method of displaying a “pie chart.”

He commented after the incident that “one of the worst things about this whole thing was that the pie wasn’t that tasty.” This is poetic justice, as some of his actions against his competitors are quite tasteless too.
