The Prosecutor in Anaheim

* Thank you for your Feb. 14 editorial “Over the Top in Anaheim.”

You have perfectly articulated a situation in our city which is most troubling. The hiring of a special prosecutor at unreasonable expense by only two of the council members has created an atmosphere of coercion and distrust in the council.

As stated in your editorial, the investigation of the 1996 city elections by special prosecutor Ravi Mehta has shown violations that are minor and could well have been handled by the existing legal mechanisms in this county and state if any charges were warranted.

We can only hope than saner minds will prevail and that the council will rescind Mehta’s contract immediately.
