Simi Valley School Board

Re the resignation of Simi Valley schools Supt. Dan Flynn.

It has been said that the best teacher is example. I hope my children are closing their eyes and ears.

I would call myself a very conservative person. I have been consistently on the other side of the fence from the so-called liberals on the school board since we moved to Simi Valley almost nine years ago. I was shocked to hear that those I had voted into office were considering hiring a superintendent without a search or even interviewing other candidates. I was amazed when I read he was actually hired.

We test drive more cars, look at more Christmas trees and try on more clothes than our board looked at candidates before they chose the one they hired. What happened was not fair or just to anyone involved.

We have the most wonderful, caring and involved school staffs. What a shame the people who run our district are in such a mess.

I would sincerely hope that when the next election rolls around we will not ignore the last few trouble-ridden years of our school district. There is only one way to fix this problem: Make those who created it accountable. Take the time to watch the school board meetings. They are televised on the local cable access channel. When you get the voter information for the school board members, read it. When you hear about candidates’ forums, go. When you punch that little spot, remember it isn’t just a name or an incumbent. The mark you make is your voice in our school district.

If you don’t like what has been happening over the last few years (and you shouldn’t) then make your vote count. If this board can’t get together, maybe it’s time for a change. We have spent far too much money fixing their mistakes.

As for the trustees, I think you should all go to your rooms for a time out and an attitude adjustment. If you don’t learn to get along and work together for all the children in our district, we should be asking for your letters of resignation.

Many of the schools in our district have signs reminding the children “TEAM” -- Together Everyone Achieves More. Did you board members miss that? Maybe you think it just pertains to our students.
