Paula Jones’ Suit

Re “Clinton Team Asks Dismissal of Jones Sex-Harassment Suit,” Feb. 18: In a suit that never should have been allowed to go forward in the first place, it is disturbing to read that one Washington legal source said, “There’s a tremendous temptation for a judge in a high-profile case like this to reason: ‘I’m going to let a jury decide it. Why should I take the heat?’ ”

Heat from whom? The Republicans? Is Judge Susan Webber Wright so intimidated by the right wing that she would let a case with no merit go forward? Or is it that a “high-profile case” like this would further her career? If this is so, I’m embarrassed for her, and I’m embarrassed for the Republicans, who gleefully pretend this is about something other than furthering their own political agenda at the expense of making our political system look foolish.
