Student Food Drive Slated Through March

Orange County elementary and middle school students will participate in the third annual “Pennies and Peanut Butter” food drive throughout March.

The drive will help promote awareness of hunger and will benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County.

Participating schools will encourage students to collect pennies and canned food for the food bank.

“This food drive, only in its third year, has already raised more than $2,000 and 9,000 pounds of peanut butter and other nonperishable food items,” said Tommye Peoples, food resource coordinator.

The Second Harvest Food Bank serves more than 180,000 people each month. It provides food to 297 nonprofit agencies directly serving the needy.
