Harmony Creek Celebrates Opening

Share

A grand opening was held Tuesday for the Harmony Creek affordable apartments for seniors.

Tenants began moving into the 83 apartments at 1616 E. Rock Creek Drive in December, and there are six openings left, officials said.

Harmony Creek was launched as a joint venture with developers Kaufman and Broad, and the private, nonprofit Orange Housing Development Corp., said Eunice Bobert, chief executive officer of the housing group.

To qualify for an apartment, applicants must be at least 62 years old and cannot earn more than 50% of the county median income. For single seniors, that means their income cannot surpass $23,050 a year, Bobert said.

A one-bedroom Harmony Creek apartment rents for as low as $435 a month, Bobert said. The market rate for a similar apartment is approximately $700.

Bobert said this is the corporation’s fourth senior housing project in Orange.
