Strawberry Farms Golf Course Addition Opposed
Dozens of angry residents, many wearing homemade pins reading “Save Quail Hill,” spoke in opposition to a proposal that would add nine holes at Strawberry Farms Golf Course.
If approved, the addition would be on land designated as an open space preserve by city voters in 1988.
The designation was approved a second time by voters a couple of years later.
The City Council was set to consider whether to place the expansion proposal before voters in a $75,000 special election, but postponed the decision for 90 days.
Despite the postponement, residents lined up Tuesday to have their say.
“When we voted, we spoke,” said Laura Turner, a University Park resident for 23 years. “Quail Hill is a gem; let’s keep it that way.”
Doug DeCinces, a former baseball player with the Anaheim Angels who owns Strawberry Farms Golf Course, took the unusual step of holding an impromptu meeting with residents in a City Hall conference room.
He said he hopes to continue talks with residents.
