Military Drops Feed to Snowbound Cattle
Military aircraft airlifted emergency feed to large herds of cattle and sheep devastated by one of the worst snowstorms to hit New Mexico in decades. State officials said two cargo planes dropped 23 tons of hay to 60 locations in eastern New Mexico. As much as 700 tons could be airlifted to the area in coming days because heavy and drifting snow has prevented producers from trucking feed in, officials said. A series of storms has ripped across much of New Mexico over the past week, killing at least 7,500 livestock. Officials said about 180,000 more are at risk.
