Brieana Jones

Re “A Battle Over Loss, Love and Loyalties,” Dec. 27:

Brieana Bethune Jones is part of a large, loving family and community. She isn’t sidelined--she’s vitally important. The interest from her and her mother’s settlement provides a comfortable life for her caretakers--family members who love her. Yes, they sacrifice for her, but she is not powerless. She need feel no guilt. She provides for them. How uplifting to her self-esteem that must be.

Don’t we all hope that if the time comes when we need full-time care, our family members will be willing to do it and we, too, will have something to give back to them? Why should they shop in thrift stores? (The attorney calls them “Nordstrom’s people.” Where does the attorney shop?) Why should they suffer to care for this girl? It sounds like everyone wins to me.
