Stopping Airport Is Mayor’s No. 1 Goal

At the top of the city’s agenda for 1998 is its continued fight against the proposed commercial airport at El Toro Marine Corps Air Station, Mayor Christina L. Shea said.

“I’d say opposing the airport is our predominant issue,” Shea said. “Something else that’s been on my list for a long time is the possible development of a rapid transit system for our business area. We’ve hired a consultant to look at several issues. But this is an ongoing project and will be coming up in council meetings for discussion.”

Shea said the outlook for the city in 1998 is a positive one.

“When you come out of a deep recession and things are turning around and there is money to provide services, it’s a wonderful thing,” she said.
