Athletic Fields, Golf Course in Offing

Looking forward is a tough thing to do in Fountain Valley, since elected officials often boast that their mission is to keep the city the way it is: small, safe and charming. There are, however, some important issues on the burner for 1998.

The city plans to lease about 23 additional acres of Mile Square Park to develop into athletic fields, said City Manager Raymond H. Kromer. Also, the county, which owns the park, plans to eventually build another golf course there, which will likely displace model airplane hobbyists who use an old military airstrip.

Expect development of the City Yard property on Ward Street at the San Diego Freeway to become a hot issue. The city hopes to develop it for private use.
