Health Care Center to Expand Facility

The Northeast Valley Health Corp., which provides health care to needy Valley families, has announced plans to expand one of its four primary health care centers.

As part of a yearlong celebration of its 25th anniversary, Northeast Valley will break ground Friday for a 6,100-square-foot Family Medicine & Walk-In Center, which will be built adjacent to the San Fernando Health Center.

Completion of the $1.3 million building, financed primarily with federal funds, is slated for August with occupancy to follow in September, said Janet Judson, the center’s administrator.

“The new building means that it will double the number of exam rooms we have so we should be able to better serve the public.”

Judson said the center primarily will serve the medically uninsured, low-income and homeless families and patients infected with the AIDS virus.

Attending the event will be Assemblyman Tony Cardenas (D-Sylmar), state Sen. Herschel Rosenthal (D-Los Angeles), Rep. Howard Berman (D-Mission Hills) and Health Deputy Ron Hanson of County Supervisor Mike Antonovich’s office.

Local 399 of the Service Employees International Union, which had previously donated $35,000 toward the center’s building fund, announced that it will give an additional $15,000 at the event.

“That money will be used to purchase furniture and medical equipment,” Judson said.

The public event will take place from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the center, 1600 San Fernando Road. For more information, contact the NEVHC at (818) 898-1388 or the center at (818) 365-8086.
