Duke’s James Out for Season Because of a Sprained Ankle

Duke sophomore swingman Nate James will sit out the rest of the season because of a sprained ankle.

The school said Friday that team physicians recommended rest as the best treatment.

He will apply for a medical hardship to retain his sophomore year of eligibility. If the appeal is granted, James will have three years of eligibility left.

Tywan Meadows, Idaho State’s leading scorer and rebounder, has been suspended indefinitely by the school. Meadows was arrested in Idaho Falls on Dec. 20 and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Connecticut freshman point guard Khalid El-Amin will observe the Muslim holy month of Ramadan by fasting from dawn to dusk--but not on days he suits up to play.

“I won’t fast on game days. I’ll have to make those days up later,” said El-Amin, the team’s second-leading scorer.

The snow that blanketed upstate New York has stopped and Carrier Dome has been reinflated, allowing Sunday’s game between Rutgers and Syracuse to be played as scheduled.

The Syracuse area received more than two feet of snow earlier this week, forcing the cancellation of Tuesday night’s game between the 19th-ranked Orangemen and Pittsburgh.
