City Eyes Agent to Sell Center Naming Rights

Share

Council members today will consider hiring New York-based Spencer Sports Media Inc. as the city’s agent to sell the naming rights for Anaheim Convention Center.

And the price tag to buy the naming rights of a center that hosts more than 100 trade shows and exhibits a year? “We think it’s got to be a million-dollar deal annually,” said Greg Smith, stadium and convention center general manager.

Smith said a convention center being built in Milwaukee recently sold its naming rights to Midwest Express Airlines for between $400,000 and $600,000 a year.

Should the city sell the naming rights for the convention center, Anaheim would remain in the title, Smith said. Spencer Sports Media would receive a 17.6% commission on the total of any naming agreement.

The meeting begins at 5 p.m. in the council chambers, 200 S. Anaheim Blvd. Information: (714) 254-5166.
