Hospital Pressured Over Its Trash Pile
A pile of hospital equipment, furniture and trash behind High Desert Hospital in Lancaster has raised eyebrows among nearby residents and prompted the intervention of county Supervisor Mike Antonovich.
Antonovich, who called the site an eyesore and unsafe, plans to ask for an investigation at today’s meeting of the Board of Supervisors.
Antonovich spokesman Cam Currier said the supervisor’s field deputy had visited the site and “couldn’t believe what she found.”
Hospital Administrator Mel Gussing said the pile consisted mostly of scrap metal, dirt from construction projects and other unusable materials.
“None of the stuff out in the back has anything to do with useful equipment,” Gussing said. “That’s all stored in another area.”
Gussing said he and other hospital officials decided about a month ago to do something about the pile.
“We decided we’d better get working on cleaning it up,” he said.
