After a closed-door meeting Tuesday afternoon, City Council members were tight-lipped on their choice for a new city manager, saying only that an announcement could come in the next couple of days.

In the meeting, council members discussed the qualifications of finalists Edmund F. Sotelo, Pasadena’s assistant city manager; Richard Ramirez, the interim public works director in Modesto; and John Arnold, a former Eureka city manager.

Council members were expected to choose a new city manager Tuesday and begin salary negotiations. They referred questions to city Personnel Manager Lino Corona, who said he could not divulge details on the recruitment process.

“I would say we would hope to have something [to announce] in two or three days,” Councilman Bedford Pinkard said.

Sotelo said Tuesday afternoon that he had not heard from Oxnard officials, while Ramirez and Arnold could not be reached for comment. Council members are searching for a replacement for City Manager Tom Frutchey, who was fired 11 months ago.
