Chief Parks to Talk on Community Policing
Los Angeles Police Chief Bernard Parks will speak about changes in the Police Department’s community policing strategy at Tuesday’s meeting of the Studio City Residents Assn.
In the fall, Parks announced plans to reorganize the department’s community policing efforts by spreading the responsibility to officers throughout the department. In the past, senior lead officers were the main police contacts for residents.
The residents association president said the meeting will be a chance to hear Parks speak on the issue, which has stirred a debate throughout Los Angeles.
“Community policing is very important to our community and it’s important that residents understand any changes made by the Police Department,” said Tony Lucente.
Tuesday will be the second time the police chief has appeared at a Studio City Residents Assn. meeting since taking office in August. He attended his first meeting the day he was sworn into office in August, Lucente said.
Chief Parks will also speak about crime and safety issues and be available for questions, Lucente said. Joining Parks at the podium will be John Schunhoff, acting director of the county Public Health Department, who will discuss the county’s restaurant inspection program.
Tuesday’s meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Carpenter Avenue Elementary School Auditorium, 3909 Carpenter Ave.
