City Receives Grant for Electric Vehicle Program

West Hollywood has received a $175,000 grant from California’s Petroleum Violators Escrow Account, which disburses pollution fines levied against corporations to programs that encourage electric vehicle use.

The City Council on Tuesday voted to use the money to purchase three electric vehicles for the city fleet and six electric bicycles for use by parking enforcement officers, and to install six charging stations in four public parking areas.

“Installing charging stations here could really promote a wider acceptance of this technology,” said Councilman Paul Koretz.

“We’ve been an environmentally oriented city and want to increase the acceptance of this technology to clean the air of the L.A. Basin,” he added.
