Foreign Inquiry Into Massacres Spurned

Even as reports of more killings were published, the government “categorically rejected” a call by the U.S. for an independent inquiry into the continuing slaughter blamed on Islamic insurgents. But in an apparent contradiction, the U.S. State Department said that a human rights investigator was still a possibility. State-run radio reported that attackers killed 62 civilians and wounded 48 in new massacres in Relizane province.
