Bike Trailers Recalled

Share

A unit of GT Bicycles Inc. is recalling about 5,500 Tag-A-Long bicycle trailers because of a faulty universal joint that can cause the trailers to become separated from the bicycles, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday.

Riteway Products, the parts and accessories unit of GT, makes the Cycle Design Tag-A-Long, a one-wheel bike that attaches to a larger bicycle. The model is popular with parents who have smaller children. The company and the commission have received six reports of the universal joint failing, which resulted in two minor injuries.

The recall covers every Tag-A-Long made from July to November last year, said Bob Hadley, a GT spokesman. The trailer sells for about $179. Consumers can call Riteway at (800) 743-3248 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays for information on replacing the joint.
