Council Rejects Golf Course Plan
Residents won’t find themselves golfing on Tierra Rejada Road any time soon.
Calling the application misleading, the Moorpark City Council unanimously rejected a proposal Wednesday to bring a golf course to the city.
Applicant Ted Kruger of Malibu-based Crumpler & Kruger Commercial Real Estate Inc. initially requested permission for a driving range. That bid was rejected by the city but approved by the county Board of Supervisors, which had the final approval because the project would be on county-owned land.
This time around, the developer asked for a modification from his county permit, requesting an 18-hole golf course.
Saying he was disappointed at the proposed change, Mayor Pat Hunter said Kruger’s original plan was less likely to anger the public.
“I believe there was always the intent to develop a golf course,” Hunter said. “It was misleading to first get it [approved] as a driving range that generated far less public discussion.”
Hunter said the traffic issues and “inappropriate use of open space” mean he will continue to oppose Kruger’s application.
The council intends to inform the county’s Planning Commission of its continued opposition to the golf project.
