Re “Congress Urged to Go Slow on Tax Cuts, Spending,” Jan. 5:

So White House officials and key Republicans are urging Congress to wait until a surplus actually materializes before they decide on how to spend it. It makes one wonder whatever happened to the national debt?

President Clinton is always talking about helping “the children.” Well, here’s his chance to do something really substantial for the “children”--make payments on the national debt.
