Thank you for your article on Lorcin Engineering (Dec. 27), one of the “Ring of Fire” Saturday night special handgun manufacturers. The close tie-in of the Lorcin guns to crime scenes was made quite evident. And now you have documented the many cases of injury to Lorcin gun owners.

Gov. Pete Wilson had an opportunity to reduce the number of these deadly handguns earlier this year by signing SB 500. It would have banned the manufacture and sale of Saturday night specials, including most of the Lorcin output. Instead, Wilson bowed to the manufacturers, the NRA and the rest of the gun lobby by vetoing the bill, leaving Californians to face thousands more of these firearms that cannot meet federal import safety and quality standards.
