George Arnold; Ice Skater

George Arnold, 76, professional ice skater and producer of long-running Las Vegas revues. With his partner, dancer Bill Moore, Arnold made ice skating a popular part of Las Vegas shows and produced a dozen ice shows, including “Spice on Ice,” “Playgirls on Ice” and “Nudes on Ice.” One of their most popular non-ice shows was “City Lites,” which closed in 1994 after running 13 years at the Flamingo Hilton. Born in Glendale, Arnold attended Glendale College and joined the Ice Capades as a skater. He became well known for a tap dance on skates that earned him the nickname “Fred Astaire of the Ice.” After Arnold moved to Las Vegas in 1955 and met Moore, the two teamed up to produce “Rhythm on Ice” at the El Cortez Hotel in 1960. The show was a hit and propelled them to the Las Vegas Strip, where they produced successful shows over the years at 10 major hotels. They also produced shows in Reno and Atlantic City, N.J., and toured their shows throughout the United States, Canada and England. Arnold once owned a club in Palm Springs called the Chi Chi Club, which was favored by celebrities. On Dec. 25 in Mexico City of a heart attack.
