Dow Jones Family Member Voices Doubts About Chairman
A member of Dow Jones & Co.’s controlling Bancroft family said in an interview that Chairman Peter Kann is the right leader for the Wall Street Journal, but she’s unsure if he should run the company.
“I don’t know. I really don’t know” if Kann, a 1972 Pulitzer Prize winner as a Journal reporter, is the best leader for Dow Jones, Elisabeth Goth said in an interview to be broadcast on “CBS News Sunday Morning” this weekend.
In response, Dow Jones targeted several typographical mistakes in a CBS news release issued Friday to promote the segment.
“We hope their story proves more accurate than their press release,” Dow Jones said in a statement.
Criticism from Goth and her cousin, William Cox III, has been at the center of fierce speculation in the last year about a shake-up at the company, which has been battling problems with its Dow Jones Markets financial information service.
“When I was told about the company and I was old enough to have some sort of comprehension . . . we were the best media company in the world,” said Goth, who owns only a small portion of Dow Jones stock. “Things changed rather drastically.”
Dow Jones stock closed at $50, down $1.75 in a down market Friday on the New York Stock Exchange.
