Council to Hear Bid to Split Old Towne Parcel

The owners of a half-acre Old Towne parcel will take their case for subdivision to the City Council on Tuesday.

Property owners Paul Clark and George Adams contend that dividing the site on Maple Avenue and Parker Street into three lots is in “the best interest” of the city.

Such a move, they say, would allow the lot’s rented houses, which are in dilapidated condition, to be bought and fixed up by individual owners.

The Planning Commission in July rejected the plan, which originally provided for four lots, prompting the appeal to the City Council. The commissioners ruled that only one of the lots even comes close to meeting city standards. Also, the area is zoned for multi-family buildings, they said.

Planners are urging the council to reject the downsized plan.

The public hearing for the appeal begins at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 300 E. Chapman Ave. Information: (714) 744-5500.
