Welfare Plan

Share

Re “County OKs Bare-Bones Welfare Plan,” Jan. 7: Where can I sign up for this new welfare plan? It only requires a 32-hour workweek. Many people have to work 70-80 hours a week to make ends meet. The plan states mothers are exempt from welfare-to-work programs until their youngest child is 1 year old. Many working mothers have to go back their jobs less than a month after giving birth.

This welfare program will also assist with transportation, child care and job development. Working people must deal with these issues on their own. Why would anyone want to get off the gravy train and enter the real world of taking responsibility for oneself?
