Bus Plunges Into River in Eastern India; 53 Die

NEW DELHI —
An overcrowded bus returning from a high school picnic skidded into a river in West Bengal state Tuesday, killing at least 53 people and leaving 16 missing and feared drowned, police and news reports said.
Rescuers saved 17 others from the water of the Bhagirathi River. The driver lost control of the bus on a foggy road.
