Queen Bee Nightclub Loses Business Permit

Share

The Queen Bee Vietnamese nightclub has lost its business permit after a three-year struggle to survive.

City Council members Tuesday upheld the revocation of the Beach Boulevard nightclub’s conditional use permit. The Planning Commission had revoked the club’s business permit in October 1996 for exceeding occupancy limits and failing to establish a restaurant.

Business owner Larry Nguyen appealed the decision to the council, which initially delayed action to allow him to comply with city regulations.

The nightclub, which served alcoholic beverages, was required to operate a restaurant because its Stanton Plaza location is within 500 feet of a bar.

City Manager Terry Matz said the zoning regulations are intended to limit the number of bars in any one part of the city.

The council rejected a plea by Nguyen and Stanton Plaza owner Jim Besaw to keep the permit in place to make the business more attractive to prospective buyers.
