Schools Get Computers Used in Quake Relief Effort
Pasadena’s public schools have received 43 used desktop computers from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which had until recently used the machines to help distribute aid after the Northridge earthquake.
“Although the computers are used and of minimal dollar value, they can be invaluable as a teaching aid to the teachers and students in this age of technology,” said Leland Wilson, coordinating officer of the Pasadena-based Northridge Long Term Recovery Area Office.
The donation was made possible by a presidential executive order that permits government-to-school transfers of surplus computers.
The Pasadena Unified School District will use the computers at various school sites; plans include a computer laboratory at one elementary school.
