Ballclub Owner Plans Boxing Matches in Ventura
After canceling plans to hold boxing matches at an Oxnard nightclub, minor league baseball team owner Don DiCarlo now says he is ready to host a slate of matches at Ventura’s Derby Club.
In a news release, the Pacific Suns owner announced the “Battle By the Sea,” his inaugural boxing card, will take place Jan. 29 at the Ventura site. Ticket prices were listed as $20 for general admission, $30 to $35 for preferred seating and $45 for ringside seats.
The card lists the main event as a bout between lightweights Eddie Contreras of Santa Paula and Mike Dallas of Bakersfield.
DiCarlo could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
He announced in October that he wanted to bring boxing, not just baseball, to Ventura County. The initial plan was to hold matches at Leonardo’s night club in Oxnard, but DiCarlo later changed his mind.
Robert Valdez of Primitive Sports Promotions remains DiCarlo’s partner in promoting local boxing matches, according to the news release.
