Closed for Decades, School Will Reopen

Share

Beechwood Elementary School hasn’t served as a place for kids to attend class in nearly two decades, but it will reopen for the 1999-2000 school year.

Trustees of the Fullerton School District this week voted for the reopening, citing rising student enrollment and projections that new housing being built in the area will result in more pupils.

The elementary school district has rented the school to the Fullerton Joint Union High School District since 1981. That district used it as headquarters and now plans to vacate the premises by May 31. It has bought property on Bastanchury Road to house its district offices, beginning this summer.

Details regarding how many grade levels will be offered at Beechwood, how long it will take to upgrade the site to meet building standards and what its attendance boundaries might be will be discussed at upcoming school board meetings.
