Miss America to Talk to Teens About AIDS

Share

Miss America, Kate Shindle, will visit about 300 students at El Toro High School on Thursday to speak about AIDS-related issues.

The Orange County Red Cross Youth HIV/AIDS Volunteer Educators program is sponsoring the assembly for sophomore health sciences students.

“When we found out that Miss America would be in San Diego for the Super Bowl, we felt compelled to invite her to Orange County if only for a very brief visit,” said Patrick Baker, chapter manager for the local Red Cross. “Kate Shindle’s focus has been on educating at-risk groups, especially young people.”

Principal Jack Clement said the school was chosen for the visit because its students are active in the Red Cross Club and its Youth HIV/AIDS Peer Education.

Clement said that students need parental permission to attend the event.
