Design Consultants for Downtown Sought
A $3.2-million effort to put a new face on downtown and other parts of town continued last week as the City Council approved the search for design consultants.
The council also appointed a subcommittee to review candidates for the job.
The project calls for redesigning the Town Center and portions of Pacific Coast Highway with landscaping, street work to improve traffic flows and other improvements.
The bid proposals and subcommittee appointments were unanimously approved after confusion over whether the subcommittee or the council would have final say on hiring the project designer. The subcommittee will be made up of council members and city staff members.
Public Works Director Mort August said city staff members had always intended to leave the final decision to the council.
