Road Connects City With Agoura Hills
Residents of Agoura Hills now have an alternate route to Calabasas without having to take the Ventura Freeway.
The improvement and opening of a long-closed stretch of Agoura Road this month also provides easy access to the two cities’ joint community center project, which will be built on Malibu Hills Road in Calabasas.
The stretch of asphalt between Lost Hills and Liberty Canyon roads was laid in the late 1980s as part of a development, but was held up in legal wrangling between the developer and the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District.
With the legal disputes settled, the county Department of Public Works began a road improvement project in September.
Still, the opening has not come without conflict.
County officials hoped to provide an alternate route between the two communities that would enable residents to bypass the freeway. But some nearby residents said it would change the nature of the street, creating a regional thoroughfare and bringing unwanted traffic to the area.
Officials at the Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station, located near what used to be the gate on the Calabasas side, said the road has not been heavily traveled since it opened Jan. 6.
