Meeting Will Focus on River Park Concept
The vision of a 1,000-acre park at the mouth of the Santa Ana River will be explained at a public meeting tonight.
Supporters of the proposed Orange Coast River Park say that it would preserve precious open land and allow restoration of wetlands and other fast-disappearing habitat.
Plans call for linking a patchwork of public and private lands. The park would run from coastal wetlands inland to coastal bluffs, encompassing existing parks such as Fairview Park and Talbert Nature Preserve.
“This is a compilation of all sorts of habitats,” said Jean Watt, the former Newport Beach councilwoman who is president of Friends of Harbors, Beaches and Parks, a nonprofit group championing this plan and other park growth countywide. By linking the land, supporters hope to qualify for grants available to larger park systems.
Tonight’s meeting will include a presentation and slide show. It will begin at 7 at the Costa Mesa Neighborhood Community Center, 1845 Park Ave.
