Republican Party

According to Janet Hook’s Jan. 15 news analysis, the Republican Party is heading into a “period of turmoil” over such issues as abortion, what to do with the budget surplus, etc. Since Bill Clinton took office we’ve had over 300 elected Democratic officials nationwide switch to the Republican Party. We have had Republicans regain control of Congress for the first time in over 40 years and retain that control for the first time in almost 70 years.

Republicans now hold 32 of 50 governors’ seats, representing over 75% of the population. The mayors of New York and Los Angeles not only belong to the party of Lincoln but have now been reelected to their posts in cities whose voter registration is 70%-plus Democrat. The Democratic Party now finds itself having to defend such popular items as race preferences (affirmative action), partial-birth abortions and unions so corrupt they appear to have more in common with the Mafia than with the average worker.

It would appear Hook’s article has the right headline (“1998 Dawns as Period of Turmoil for GOP”), just the wrong party. Nice try.
