Businesses hurt by falling sales in Asia may find some help in a series of seminars the Commerce Department is planning around the country. Commerce Undersecretary David Aaron said about a dozen regional meetings would probably be held for businesses to learn how to overcome obstacles, retain clients and learn from companies that remain successful in Asia. Dates and locations for the meetings will be announced later. The Commerce Department also plans to gather information to keep companies current on financial conditions in Asian nations and find out what is necessary to keep markets open. U.S. Trade Representative Charlene Barshefsky said American companies should expect a drop in Asian sales over the next six to 12 months. . . . S.C. Johnson & Son Inc. won U.S. antitrust approval for its $1.125-billion purchase of Midland, Mich.-based Dow Chemical Co.’s consumer products business as long as it completes its planned sale of Spray ‘n Wash and two other popular household products to Reckitt & Colman. In an agreement with the Federal Trade Commission, Racine, Wis.-based S.C. Johnson agreed to sell assets related to Spray ‘n Wash, Spray ‘n Starch and Glass Plus products to the U.S. subsidiary of London-based Reckitt & Colman for $160 million.
