Police May Take Over Permits for Live Acts

The city’s police chief soon may have control over live-entertainment permits under a proposal that will be considered Monday by the City Council.

The council has been responsible for deciding permit issues, holding public hearings and gathering information from the police.

But city officials are looking to speed the process as more businesses seek to offer live entertainment, City Manager Mark J. Ochenduszko said.

In the past year, the council reviewed the city’s two businesses with music permits in response to noise complaints from residents and police activity.

The proposal would attempt to limit future problems by requiring noise limits and security guards, and by prohibiting drinking outside an establishment.

If approved, the ordinance would go into effect immediately.

The City Council meeting takes place at 7 p.m. at 5275 Orange Ave. Information: (714) 229-6700.
