Council OKs Plan for Library Expansion

Share

A design for expanding the children’s section of the Fullerton Public Library has been approved by the City Council, with fund-raising efforts to pay for the $1.12-million project already underway.

The design calls for increasing the section about 40% by taking over a portion of the library’s gallery space and enclosing a patio.

Library officials said the expansion is needed. The children’s section, which is about 540 square feet, gets the most use.

At least 50% of all the children’s books are checked out at any given time, officials said.

Members of the library’s Board of Trustees and fund-raising foundations said the children’s section usually is packed with young readers.

Fund-raisers are planned to help pay for the project. Groups have raised about $70,000 so far.
