This Soccer Team Has It All in the Name

Share

John Madden’s got his team, and I’ve got mine.

And here to introduce the first Valley and Ventura region all-name high school soccer team is, well, Jon Madden, who also happens to play on the Chaminade High boys’ team.

To get us started, we should probably go with Gogo Rothbart from the Buckley girls’ team. After her, we will break off the players by academic subjects.

Leading all historical discussions will be Genghis Hernandez of the Burroughs boys’ team. Heading up literature will be Highland’s Johnathan Livingston (Seagull). And for those with an ornithological bent, we offer North Hollywood’s Starling Barahona and Saugus’ Joy Finch.

For geography, we have Fillmore’s Martin Oregon and Harvard-Westlake’s India Mandelkern.

For language, Monroe’s Oz Greek and Chaminade’s Michelle French.

Music will be handled by Chaminade’s Lindsey Horn.

Rebecca Plummer and Camille Butcher from the Royal girls’ team are the best from trade school.

Our team colors: See Quartz Hill’s Julie Gold and St. Bonaventure’s Gray Barry.

In closing, we must note that some names are clearly made for soccer. Fillmore’s Maika Pele quickly comes to mind.

Others, such as Burroughs’ Ingrid Shank, clearly are not. But she is an excellent player nonetheless.
