Knowledge Is Shower

When it comes to the entire body, dermatologists say, washing habits really depend upon your skin type.

If you’re prone to dry skin, you should shower as quickly as possible using cool to warm water. Also, look for soaps that provide extra moisturizers.

If your skin is oily, showering with hot water and for longer periods should be fine, dermatologists say. Wash briskly and be careful to avoid moisturizing soaps.

Paying special attention to the feet can stem the spread of germs and infection. People who take long, hot showers should dry completely between their toes--an area where fungus can easily develop.

“And although a shower a day is more than a person needs, it’s fine--even two showers a day--as long as the skin can absorb all that water, dermatologists say.”

“You’ll know when you’re overdoing it,” said Dr. Arnold Gurevitch, a USC dermatologist. “The skin will become uncomfortably dry and scaly.”
