Regarding Ethan B. Kapstein’s “I’m Shocked, Shocked, to find that Cronyism is going on in East Asia,” Opinion, Jan. 18:
Does it occur to no one that American capitalist freestyle democracy may be the cause? Huckstered throughout the world where it is not imposable? The nearest I’ve read to such an observation was Robert D. Kaplan’s Atlantic Monthly article, “Was Democracy Just a Moment?” (December 1997).
