‘Bird Flu’ Not Yet Gone, Official Says

This Chinese territory, which will end its ban on live chicken imports Feb. 7, is not yet free of the deadly “bird flu” that has killed six people, a health official said. Health Director Margaret Chan, quoted by the Chinese-language Ming Pao newspaper, said the government could claim victory only if no new cases appear in the year ahead. Chan, currently on the mainland with a team of World Health Organization experts to investigate the deadly virus, said the risk remains for the next six months.
