The occupant of a mobile home in Newbury Park was seriously burned when a gas leak caused an explosion Monday night, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.

Robert Prince, 29, was in the mobile home on the 1200 block of Newbury Road when the gas ignited at about 5:30 p.m. and caused a fire, said Fire Department officials.

The blaze lasted about a minute and was out by the time firefighters arrived, officials said. No one else was injured in the incident.

Prince, who suffered first- and second-degree burns over 30% of his body, was taken to Columbia Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks, fire officials said. Hospital officials said Prince was still being evaluated in the emergency room late last night and no condition report was available.

The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
