Tighter Rules Urged for Residential Care

Share

The City Council has urged state lawmakers to place more stringent requirements on residential care facilities for the elderly and juveniles.

Lee Whittenberg, Seal Beach director of development services, said the city is not currently having serious problems with residential care facilities, and officials hope to keep it that way by suggesting improvements to existing state laws.

In a letter to state lawmakers, city leaders Monday asked that a requirement that residential care homes be 300 feet apart be expanded to 1,000 feet to ease traffic.

The city also asked that the facility be required to notify neighbors about complaint procedures.
