Arborist to Assist City’s Tree Planting

Share

An arborist and landscaper will help oversee the citywide tree-planting program to replace trees that were removed because they had caused damage to sidewalks, curbs and streets.

Michael T. Mahoney, who consults with other Southern California cities, was hired Monday by the City Council to do the work.

The number and kinds of trees that will be planted have not been determined, and Mahoney will work with city employees and a committee of residents to develop a plan.

Councilwoman Marilynn Poe said it was not wise for the city to spend $8,250 on Mahoney because the city has qualified employees to do the work. But she later voted with the majority after city employees said they need Mahoney’s help.
