Kidney Specialist Honored by Fund
St. Joseph Hospital has established an endowment fund in honor of Dr. Dominick Gentile, a nationally recognized kidney disease specialist, who died in June.
Hospital officials said the Dominick Edward Gentile M.D. Endowment Fund will provide scholarships for nursing and other medical professionals in renal medicine, and will draw attention to Gentile’s lifelong contributions to the field.
The scholarship fund recently received $100,000 from the hospital’s foundation.
In addition, Gentile was honored Jan. 12 when the lobby of the St. Joseph Hospital Renal Center was renamed for him.
Gentile joined the St. Joseph staff in 1970, serving as chief of the department of medicine, president of the medical staff and a member of the board of trustees.
