Arab Leaders Decry Jerusalem Expansion
Jordanian, Egyptian and Palestinian leaders meeting in Cairo called for Israel to stop tampering with the status of Jerusalem. Jordan’s King Hussein joined Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat for the meeting. In Jerusalem, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blamed the Palestinians for a peacemaking deadlock. A joint communique by the Arab leaders denounced Israel’s previously announced plans to expand the boundaries of Jerusalem into Israel and link the area to Jewish settlements in the West Bank.
